Job Description Job Description IntroductionA trucking dispatcher is a person who coordinates and manages the movement of freight and drivers for a trucking company. They are responsible for finding and assigning loads, planning routes, tracking deliveries, communicating with drivers and customers, and handling any issues or emergencies that arise along the way. A trucking dispatcher is a vital link in the supply chain, as they ensure that the cargo is delivered safely, efficiently, and on time.Roles and ResponsibilitiesA trucking dispatcher has many roles and responsibilities, depending on the size and type of the trucking company they work for. Some of the common tasks that a trucking dispatcher performs are: * Planning and optimizing routes for drivers, considering factors such as traffic, weather, road conditions, fuel costs, and hours of service regulations. * Monitoring and tracking the status and location of drivers and loads, using GPS, electronic logging devices, or phone calls. * Communicating with drivers and customers, providing them with updates, instructions, and feedback. * Resolving any problems or issues that arise during the transportation process, such as delays, breakdowns, accidents, or customer complaints. This is a 24/7 responsibility and can expect calls and or texts on the weekends or evenings. * Maintaining records and documentation of the transportation operations, such as invoices, bills of lading, driver logs, and fuel receipts. * Upload all documentation to clients, such as photographs of deliveries or inbound freight issues. * All paperwork must be entered into the Freight Path system. * Reviewing driver’s logs, including dispatch calls and arrival times. * Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as company policies and procedures. * Responsible 24/7 to answer questions from clients, receivers and drivers if issue arise at any time day or night including weekends. Skills and QualificationsA trucking dispatcher needs to have a variety of skills and qualifications to perform their job effectively. Some of the essential skills and qualifications are: * High school diploma or equivalent. * At least 1 year of experience in the transportation industry, either as a driver, a dispatcher, or a customer service representative. * Knowledge of the trucking industry, including the types of freight, equipment, and regulations (DOT, NAFTA, federal and state standards). * Knowledge of Box trucks, 53’ trucks, OTR, Flat Beds and Refrigerator trucks. * Monitoring truck repairs and ensuring their regular maintenance. * Proficiency in using computer software and applications, such as Microsoft Office, dispatching software, GPS, and electronic logging devices. * Excellent communication and people skills, as they must interact with drivers, customers, and other stakeholders. * Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, as they need to deal with various challenges and situations. * Ability to work under pressure and multitask, as they need to manage multiple tasks and deadlines. * Attention to detail and accuracy, as they must ensure that the information and documentation are correct and complete.
