Cox Trucking is an award winning, privately held, family-owned and operated trucking business. Cox Trucking has operated successfully in St. George, Utah for over 75 years. We have won the Trucking Company Best of Southern Utah Gold award since its inception two years ago.

We have a rare opening for a seasoned company controller who is hands-on and understands the trucking industry. Experience should include a professional who has trucking/freight hauling/transportation experience and can run the accounting department and provide insight and guidance to the owner through analysis of company finances.

Please note: This job must reside in our corporate office in St. George, Utah. Some relocation assistance may be available. Salary for the position is dependent on a person's experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct all aspects of the finance and accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit lines, payroll, cash flow, employment taxes, tax reporting.
  • Develop budgets and forecasting capabilities.
  • Establish, monitor, and enforce internal controls utilizing financial policies, procedures, and reporting systems to maximize return on assets.
  • Maintain, reconcile, and analyze general ledger accounts.
  • Oversee and analyze customer accounts, including collections, and credit lines.
  • Initiate controlled procedures to verify accuracy of all business financial transactions.
  • Design, develop and maintain automated processes for financial reports / analysis / statements by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing business data and trends.
  • Provide the owner/leadership team with insight and accurate financial data to aid in the organization’s financial decisions, forecasting, budgeting, and on-going development.
  • Manage accounting team by improving efficiencies; coaching and developing staff; monitoring and appraising job results.
  • Collaborate with company's outside accounting firm as necessary for tax preparation and external audits, in particular. Assure all tax information is prepared in a timely manner and submitted to CPA firm to assure compliance.
  • Provide financial analysis for special projects and strategic planning.
  • Prefer candidate with experience in trucking insurance programs including Captive insurance. Assist and support management with annual insurance review and Workers Compensation audits.
  • Manage the month-end close process and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
  • Oversee the budgeting and forecasting process
  • Provide strategic statistical analysis and suggestion of new business strategies and financial efficiencies.
  • Help the company set annual financial and overall performance goals.
  • Assure company is compliant with all Federal, State and DOT laws and regulations.·
  • Follow generally accepted accounting principles at all times
  • Assure the Cox Accounting staff is cross-trained so there is back-up for every position
  • Willing to work on special projects as necessary and/or assigned
  • Team player who works well with employees, customers and management.
  • Identify cost saving projects, including meeting and brainstorming with Department Heads and team members on efficiency and productivity.
  • Assist in job costing for RFPs and other customer related issues.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have 5+ years controller experience in an over $20M per year business.
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field with CPA license a plus.
  • STRONGLY prefer candidate with controller experience in trucking and/or transportation industry.
  • Must have proven track record with other companies of being hands on and meeting the stated qualifications.
  • Extreme preference for a candidate with McLeod or other transportation software experience.
  • Prefer a candidate that has a record of helping a business grow and remain successful.
  • Ideal candidate has a “can do” attitude and is willing to pitch-in with whatever comes along if necessary
  • Must possess exceptional computer and information technology skills
  • Proven ability to find trends, get ahead of the market and provide creative and insightful solutions and strategies.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication is a requirement.
  • Ability to quickly develop a great rapport with Cox Trucking team.
  • High level of integrity
  • Must be able to pass a background, credit, and drug test and provide business references to verify skills.

About Parke Cox Trucking:

Freight Hauling/Trucking Company with 80 drivers and 25 admin and shop employees. We have been in business since 1947. We are around $20m per year revenue. Unlike mega-fleets with multiple service layers, we have a "boutique-ish" type of service where a customer makes on call to their dedicated logistics coordinator to coordinate all their needs. Our new business is mostly worth of mouth from other satisfied customers.
